PROVEN EFFECTIVENESS
Clinical data on anger management suggests that psycho-educational intervention, not counseling or psychotherapy, is the most effective intervention. Psycho-educational intervention is the foundation of AMI’s program.
AMI uses the Conover Assessment, in the initial interview. This assessment tool scores, pinpoints and maps a client’s status upon beginning anger management training and focuses on the participant’s level of functioning in the areas of managing:
Communication: Self-assessment, skills to receive and send messages correctly, roadblocks to open communication, phrases for miscommunication, active listening, and styles of communication.
Anger: Constructive and destructive interactions, alternatives, personal and self-awareness inventory,
and control log.
Stress: Symptom recognition, stress management techniques, skill building, and exercises.
Emotional Intelligence: Strategic emotional involvement and practicing the art of compassion and empathy.
Motivation to change: How motivated and/or aware is individual willing to change
We also conduct a post-test at the completion of the program to determine the level of success achieved by the client. This is an evidenced-based intervention currently available.
Group Sessions and Workshops involve formal presentation, active participant engagement, DVDs, role-play and shared discussion. A copy of the popular Anderson & Anderson workbook, widely acknowledged as a standard in the field of anger management. Gaining Control of Ourselves, for Adults, or Controlling Ourselves, for Adolescents is the text used in our program.
